Lunatics'' Single Vineyard Syrah 2016 Waiheke Island

CELLAR NOTES

  Our Lunatic Syrah comes from a single steep hillside vineyard perched above the idyllic Garden Cove. Carefully hand harvested before delivery to the winery, the fruit is then put across a sorting table before being de stemmed and delivered to an open vat for fermentation.

The Lunatic Syrah is allowed to ferment with wild yeasts with pump overs being carried out twice daily. Following an extended time on skins of 35days in vat the wine was gently pressed and taken to a selection of first fill and older oak barrels for natural malolactic fermentation in the spring.

After 15 months in barrel the Lunatic Syrah was carefully racked and bottled.

A unique expression of Syrah and site; Lunatics exhibits intense floral aromas of cherry, warm slate and dusty herbs with Provencal herbs. The palate is elegant with ripe fruit, silky tannins and a lingering finish.
