Tasting Note: 2022 was a tough vintage throughout NZ. A wet Spring, a hot dry Summer and a very wet Autumn made for tough conditions to grow grapes. A real testament to our growers was the quality of fruit we harvested in 2022. The Syrah is grown by Pieter Koopman, in the Havelock Hills. This region is characterised by its north facing aspect and its limestone rich soils. No herbicide is used and an organic canopy spray regime is adhered to. Pieter’s farming methods lead to unadulterated site expression. Loads of fresh plums and boysenberry with a bright red fruits. Silky smooth tannins with just a touch of oak. Gorgeous texture and a nice light-bodied structure.
Winemaking Notes: Fermented with indigenous yeast, using a pied de cuve from the vineyard. Fermented to dryness and then given 7 days of post ferment maceration to allow the tannins to balance. Pressed off and aged in stainless steel tanks before being bottled unfined and coarsely filtered.
