Hikurangi Edwards

Hikurangi Edwards (Ngāruahine, Ngāti Porou, Te Whānau‑Ā‑Apanui & Ngāpuhi) is a Wellington-based kaiwhakairo peita (paint carver). Drawing from her rich whakapapa, she skillfully hand‑carves traditional Māori designs into layers upon layers of paint that invite you connect to histories both remembered and revived. A technique she refers to as mahi whakairo peita, a modern evolution of whakairo (carving).
