Ring-necked Pheasants were introduced to New Zealand in the mid 1800’s, to provide sport for colonists, they are native birds of Asia.

Pheasants have become widespread throughout New Zealand, with managed populations so they can continue to be hunted as gamebirds. Pheasants are commonly found in areas of open grass and farmland.

Created by local artist Cathy Hansby, drawn freehand using a digital tablet and desktop. Her modern style captures the personality of our unique wildlife, with bold colour and subtle detail. Cathy's art supports NZ Forest & Bird with their conservation work. This image features a deep teal background with vivid copper details on the Pheasant.
