Open Edition Freehand Digital Art Print by Cathy Hansby
The Karearea is an endemic bird of prey, the only Falcon found in New Zealand, and often mistaken for the Australian Harrier Hawk. Although found throughout New Zealand, they are rarer than Kiwi.
Falcon are known for their speed, agility and sharp eyesight. Their short, rounded wings allow them to manouevre quickly through thick native forest.
Falcon symbolise ambition and aspiration, freedom and victory. A Karearea feather worn by Maori warriors, implied they were as fierce and reckless as the Falcon.
Created by local artist Cathy Hansby, drawn freehand using a digital tablet and desktop. Her modern style captures the personality of our unique wildlife, with bold colour and subtle detail. Cathy's art supports NZ Forest & Bird with their conservation work. The Falcon image features a caramel background with cream and chestnut features.
Each art print is printed to order, producing a high quality Giclee fine art print on smooth archival art paper. Giclee is one of the best reproduction methods available, using acid free paper and the latest archival inks. Prints have a lifespan over 100 years.
