Bold and beautiful, the Royal Spoonbill is a large pure white bird with black spoon shaped bill. Originally from Australia, they migrated to New Zealand in the mid 1800's and settled on Southlands west coast. They can be seen around New Zealand foraging in coastal waters or nesting in kahikatea trees.

Created by local artist Cathy Hansby, drawn freehand using a digital tablet and desktop. Her modern style captures the personality of our unique wildlife, with bold colour and subtle detail. Cathy's art supports NZ Forest & Bird with their conservation work. The Spoonbill image has a bold mustard gold background against striking black and white.
